Despite these obstacles, they succeeded in finishing the building in 1919. To get over the tallest mountain, which is 17 km long, train workers constructed 20 overpasses and 17 tunnels totaling 800 meters in length.
Due to the area's high risk of earthquakes, maintaining the railway's numerous tunnels and flyovers in good operating order was a challenging and costly undertaking. One of the tunnels was affected by the 1932 earthquake.
