The largest naval base in the world is situated close to the Atlantic, southeast of Hepton-Rhodes Bay. At least 75 US Navy ships are stationed there, comprising five nuclear carriers and five aircraft carriers.
The United States Navy's Second Operational Fleet is in charge of the base's maritime region. Its size, including the port, is over 26 square kilometres, and the approaches are nearly 14 metres deep.
