Inside the cave was discovered a black puppy. It dropped into the cave and had nowhere to flee. It was little and not yet opened her eyes. Addison gently emerged the dog from the cave. Peering into the dark darkness of the cave, Addison's spine shivered with the revelation. The little creature lay powerless, its diminutive body hardly seen in the low light. The situation was perilous; the floor of the cave was damp and loose rocks made any rescue effort very dangerous. Addison reached for his torch with trained motions, so improving the scene illumination. The closed eyelids showed the creature was quite young—perhaps newborn. Drawing on his years of rescue training, he gently negotiated the cave's entrance to guarantee every step was safe. Addison painstakingly planned every manoeuvre, aware that one incorrect step could endanger either the sensitive animal or himself, so the rescue took almost thirty minutes. Whether from fear or tiredness, the creature stayed shockingly quiet during the encounter. When Addison at last arrived, he was surprised to find the small body felt abnormally warm against his palm in the chilly cave.
