They had to choose either to leave the babies there, hoping that the mother would return and get her babies out herself, or to take them out themselves since they could not see the mother. The team knew at this point that they had to discover what kind of animals these babies were.

If these were domestic animals, then they would need some major assistance. If they were wild animals, then they would not be this desperate.
