Nestled in a little, charming farmyard where the hens scrape the ground for breakfast and the roosters crow at dawn, is a chicken unlike any other. Dark as he is affectionately known, Noir seems to swallow the light around him. But it's not only his feathers; Noir is black from head to toe—beak, talons, even his organs and bones have this rich, mysterious color.
Originating from Indonesia, this remarkable chicken is of the Ayam Cemani breed, a unique variant noted for their fibromelanosis, a hereditary disorder causing hyperpigo. Noir's look is so striking; he seems to be a mystery character dressed in feathers as dark as darkness, taken out of a fairy tale. Though he has a gothic look, Noir is much like any other chicken in behavior—searching for food, lounging in the sun, and interacting with other chickens.
