Designer hybrids of a Poodle and a Dalmatian, Dalmadoodles—also called Dalmapoos—are Like its parent varieties, a Dalmadoodle is a spotty, devoted guard dog. Though they are likely to bark at strangers, with appropriate training they are loving, affectionate, and brilliant with family members. Though somewhat unusual, they are getting more and more common. This special crossbreed blends the Dalmatian's characteristic spotting and protective quality with the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the Poodle. Their looks can vary greatly; some puppies receive more Dalmatian-like spots while others have a Poodle-like curly coat with spotted patterns. Depending on whose parent breed they take after more, Dalmadoodles usually weigh between 40 and 70 pounds and stand between 15 and 25 inches tall. To remain happy and well-adjusted, these extremely active dogs need regular exercise and mental stimulation. Although their intellect makes them quite trainable, occasionally their stubbornness calls for constant positive reinforcement techniques. These canines are great friends for active families and thrive in many kinds of dog sports.
